Geography

This district covers the Southeastern one-sixth of the city of Minneapolis. A more detailed description of the 62nd district boundries is available here. Also available is a detailed list of all the 62nd District voting locations (polling places).

Elected Representation

The residents of the 62nd District are hard-working, mostly middle-class people. For many years, they have chosen DFLer's to represent their interests in elected offices. Currently, all but 2 offices in the 62nd District are held by DFL party members. A list of elected representatives is available here. This list includes their office address and phone number so you can contact them.

Also available is a list of appointed representatives -- these are district residents who are appointed (usually by the governor or the mayor) to represent the district on various government bodies.

Party Officers

The DFL party in the 62nd District is run by the Central Committee (which is made up of the precinct chairs elected by each precinct caucus) and the Executive Committee (which is made up of the officers and directors elected at the biannual District Convention). Click on the name of either committee for a list of the people serving on the committee.

Also elected at the biannual District Convention are 62nd District Delegates, who represent the District at higher levels of the DFL Party.

The 62nd District DFL operates under the state DFL Constitution (available at http://www.wavefront.com/~iziziz/mine/const.html ); but also has its' own District 62 Constitution, which is adopted (or revised) at each biannual District 62 Convention.

Meetings

Meetings of the 62nd District DFL are held on a regular basis throughout the year. All meetings are open to the public, and frequently feature a program of interest to district residents. We welcome your attendance. A list of recent and upcoming 62nd District DFL Meetings, including location, date, time and scheduled program is aailable here.

Becoming Involved . . .

The "party apparatus" of the 62nd District DFL Party is actually made up of nothing more than regular residents of the district -- people who are concerned about an issue affecting their neighborhood, their city, or their state; and who come to their precinct caucus to do something about it. No special talent is required, and no experience is needed. Just have an opinion, a willingness to express it, and the willingness to worke to do something to fix it. You don't have to be a party hack; in fact, in District 62 the majority of our delegates and nearly half of our Central Committee members are new to the political process this year.

To be involved, just show up --
- at your precinct caucus,
- at a district meeting,
- or at a candidate campaign event.
People will be glad to see you and will help you participate. We welcome everybody -- our goal is to make every resident of the 62nd District a DFL'er!
