In order to keep a secure account on any system, it is necessary to
change your password frequently. Also, keep in mind that a secure
password is not a 'word' but a random selection of letters (both upper and
lower case) and numbers. Here are a few guidelines on how to come up
with a secure password, and tips on making them easy to remeber:
Make it from the first letter of each word in a phrase and incorporate
numbers-
ie: To make a secure password for you
-can be translated into-
2mAspw4U
To change your password, do the following:
~Locate the Ewan or Telnet application that came with your internet software.
~Open the program and open a connection to: scc.net
~You will be prompted for your username then password:
username: jimbob (hit enter)
jimbob's password: 2mAspw4U (enter)
At this point, you will be at the scc:~$ prompt.
type passwd after the promt like this example:
scc:~$
Type in passwd as shown below
scc:~$ passwd
Enter new password
Enter new password again
scc:~$ exit
Then follow the promts. When you are finished, type exit after the
prompt to close the connection.
