Setting Up Outlook Express for News on Win95

Before you begin

• You should read through these instructions thoroughly and print out a copy before you continue.
• This installation procedure assumes that you have Outlook Express Email and News.
  
• Always read through the programs instructions and documentation before beginning setup or calling for technical support.

Launch Outlook News - or - Open Internet Explorer, click the Mail Button, then Read News

If this is your first time running Outlook, a box will appear and will ask you for information. Here are the windows it will display. Type in the information specific to your account.

If you already have a profile for SCC.Net setup, have installed from our CD Rom and need to verify the settings or if you are not prompted with the automatic signup, scroll below.


• Fill in your Name and click Next
  
• Enter your email address and click Next
  
• Enter news.scc.net as your NNTP or News Server - Leave the 'My news server requires me to log on' box unchecked and click Next
  
• Choose a name for this news connection (ie: news.scc.net) and click Next
  
• Select your connection type to the internet (if modem, select using phone line) and click Next
  
• Choose your existing SCC Dialup Networking Connection as the way to connect - and click Next
  
• Read the message in this window. If it was successful, click Finish. If there were any errors, click the Back button until you find where the error was made.
  

  If the First Time box does not appear after launching Outlook, follow these steps. This also shows you how to verify your settings if setting up from SCC.Net's CD Installer or for troubleshooting.

• Launch Outlook
• From the Tools menu, select Accounts
  
  
• Click on the News button and click Add if you need to add a newsserver, or select a preexisting connection (ie news.scc.net) and click Properties

  
  

• Click on the General Tab and fill in the appropriate information. Note that the news account name may be different than news.scc.net - you can call it whatever you like.

  
  

• Click on the Servers Tab and enter the name of our news server as news.scc.net in all lower case.
  

  
  

• Click on the Connection Tab and check the appropriate connection type. If calling from a modem, connect using Internet Explorer of Third Party dialer should be sufficient. If you have problems with this, try connect using my phone line, then select the DUN (dial up networking) connection to Sound Internet as shown.
  

• Click OK to make the changes.
  

  Reading News

• To open your news program, click the Mail button in Internet Explorer and select Read News. You can also click the Go menu option in Explorer and select News.
