Setting Up Outlook Express 5 Email For Win95/98/ME

Before you begin

• You should read through these instructions thoroughly and print out a copy before you continue.
• This installation procedure assumes that you have Outlook Express Email.
  
• Always read through the programs instructions and documentation before beginning setup or calling for technical support.

Launch Outlook Express - or - Open Internet Explorer, click the Mail Button, then Read Mail

If this is your first time running Outlook, a box will appear and will ask you for information. Here are the windows it will display. Type in the information specific to your account.

If you already have a profile for SCC.Net setup or if you are not prompted with the automatic signup, scroll below.

• If prompted, select to create a new Internet mail account.
  
  
• Fill in your Name and click Next
  
• Enter your email address and click Next
  
• Enter pop3.scc.net and smtp.scc.net and click Next
  
• Enter your login name (always in all lower case), then your password and click Next
  
  
• Click "Finish"
  

  If the first time box does not appear after launching Outlook, follow these steps. Also use this to verify your settings.

• Launch Outlook
• From the Tools menu, select Accounts
  
• Click on your scc.net mail profile and select Properties
  
• When adding, click on "Add" and select "Mail"
  
  
• Click on the General Tab and fill in the appropriate information. Note that the mail account name may be different than pop3.scc.net - you can call it whatever you like.
  
  
• Click on the Servers Tab and enter the information. The outgoing mail server is 'smtp.scc.net' and the incoming mail server is 'pop3.scc.net'. Remember to always enter your login name or email account in all lower case.
  
  
• Click on the Connection Tab and select the appropriate connection type. If calling from a modem, select "Connect using my modem" or the connection from the dropdown list. If a DSL/dedicated customer, select Local Area Network.
  
  
• Click Apply or OK to make the changes.
  

  Sending and Checking Email

• To Send: From the Toolbar, select Compose Message
• To Check mail: From the Toolbar, select Send and Receive

  Troubleshooting Problems

• Is my mail account name all lower case?
• Do I have a message in your Outbox addressed to a bogus email address? If so, get rid of it and you will be able to send mail again.
• Is my password typed correctly?
• Have I double-checked my server name and configuration for typos?
• Did I pay my internet service provider?
