Windows 95 CD Installation
Before your Begin
- You should read through these instructions thoroughly and print out a
copy before you continue.
- It is always a good idea to make a backup of any important files on
your system before installing software or making changes to your system.
- This installation may require you to have your Windows95 Setup Disks
or CD-ROM available.
I. Installation
- Run SETUP from the CD-ROM drive (This CD has used the Windows
95 Autorun feature. Setup may run automatically)
- Click Install Internet Explorer.
- The end user license agreement will appear. You must agree to
continue installation.
- Setup will copy the necessary files onto your hard drive, when
completed it will ask if you want to select optional components. Click No
to continue.
- Setup will finish installing the additional internet compenents. When
it has completed you will be prompted to restart. Click Yes to continue.
- After you reboot the Internet Start-up screen will appear. Click the
"Let's Go" button to continue.
- Setup will inform you that you may need your Windows 95 CD or
diskettes. When you are ready click OK.
- You computer may restart after this part of the installation.
II. Using Mail
- When first running your email program you will be prompted for a place
on your computer to store your files. Although mail will function no
matter where you place it, we recommend choosing the My Documents folder.
Click OK when you have made your selection.
- After you mail folder selection you will go through the Mail setup
Wizard. Click Next.
- The Mail Wizard will ask for a Name and e-mail address. The name can
be anything you want. The e-mail address should be your username followed
by a @scc.net (i.e. if your user name is jdoe the e-mail address would be
jdoe@scc.net)
- The next screen prompts for the server name. These blanks should be
filled in already. Click next. (If the blanks are not filled the
incomming mail should be pop3.scc.net and the outgoing mail should be
smtp.scc.net)
- In order to get you e-mail you must logon to the e-mail server. Fill
in the Account Name and Password blanks. This should be teh same Accoutn
Name and password used for your initial logon. (Hint: logonm login,
and username as the same)
- The next screen will ask how you connect to the Internet. These
blanks should be filled out automatically. Click Next, then click Finish.
- Open the Mail Menu, choose Options. Click on the Server tab, then
click on the Advanced Settings button. Make sure your Reply To address
matches your e-mail address. (i.e. if your account is jdoe, your address
is jdoe@scc.net)
- Click OK, and OK again. You are now ready to send and recieve e-mail.

III. Using News
- When you first start up news you will be guided by a News Wizzard.
First click Next.
- Enter you Name in the Name box as you would like it to appear to
others. Type in your e-mail address. (i.e. if your name is jdoe your
e-mail address is jdoe@scc.net) Click Next.
- A News Server configuration screen will appear. This should already
be filled out for you. Click Next. (If the News Server entry is blank
enter news.scc.net)
- The connection screen will appear. This should already be filled out,
Click Next.
- Click Finish. You are now ready to read the news. See the on-line
help for more information on using this application.
