Multiple Users/Mailboxes for Windows

There are instances when you might want to have multiple instances of Eudora installed on one machine. For example, if you want to have multiple people check their e-mail accounts from the same computer and want each person's data stored in a different folder, or if you wanted to use the Eudora application on your local drive, but wanted to have your mailboxes, settings, and address books saved on a server drive.

In both examples, this can be done by creating a Windows Shortcut. Then the Windows Shortcut is told to use the application in one folder, but store all the data files in another folder.

 

Creating a Shortcut


Right Click - Choose New: Shortcut

Step 1

Right click on the desktop. A contextual menu will appear. Select New, select Shortcut, then left-click.

Make sure that the shortcut points to the Eudora executable

Step 2

The window above appears.

In the Command Line field, enter the path statement to the Eudora executable. If you don't know the path to your Eudora executable, click the Browse button to find it. In our example above, it's C:\Eudora\Eudora.exe.

After you've finished, click NEXT

Name the shortcut

Step 3

The next window will appear. Type a name for this shortcut. In our example above, it's been named Jim's Eudora.

Click FINISH and it will create the shortcut.

Right click on the shortcut - Chooseperties

Find the new Shortcut and right click on it. A contextual menu appears. Select Properties, then left click.

Change the TARGET line and the START IN line.

Firstly, look at the Target: line. The path statement should point to the Eudora executable (that you defined above in Step 2). Add a space, then add the path statement to the folder that you wish the data files (mail, address books, settings) to be stored in. In our example above, it's the H:\Jim\Eudora folder.

Next, look at the Start in: line. It should point to the folder that Eudora is in. Change it to the path statement of the folder you wish to save the data in (in our example, it's the H:\Jim\Eudora folder).

Click OK. That's it - use this shortcut to start up Eudora and the data files (mail, address book, settings) will be stored in the H:\Jim\Eudora folder.

Note 1: Make sure that the path statement to the new folder is correct or else the Shortcut will not let you save the changes.

Note 2: If your path statement has a space in it, the entire path statment must be surrounded by quotation marks. For example while C:\Eudora\Eudora.exe does not require quotes, "C:\Program Files\Eudora.exe" requires quotation marks.
