Setting up Windows 3.1x for
Dialup Access to Sound Internet
Diskette Kit Before September 1997
Before You Begin
- These instructions are for Windows 3.1x and Windows for Workgroups
only. If you are running Windows95 or any other operating system please
see the appropriate pages for those operating systems.
- You should read through these instructions thoroughly and print out a
copy before you continue.
- This installation procedure assumes you have a basic working
knowledge of Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS commands.
- It is always a good idea to make a backup of any important files on
your system before installing software or making changes to your system.
- This installation will require you to have your Windows setup disks
available. If Windows came pre-installed on your system, your computer
manufacturer should have supplied you with disks.
Remove Any Existing Internet Software
- If you are using software provided to you by Sound Internet for use
with Windows 3.1x simply delete the directory tree C:\INET. To do this
you may start an MS-DOS prompt and type:
deltree c:\inet
- If you are using a third-party Internet software package. Please
check with that software's documentation for instructions on how to
un-install the software.
- If you are currently a user of a commercial online service such as
America Online, Prodigy, Compuserve or Netcom, it is important to note
that they may interfere with a normal Internet connection. You may wish
to contact these companies directly for any information on possible
conflicts with your Sound Internet service.
Install Software from the Diskettes
- Insert diskette number #1 into the floppy drive.
- Click File then Run
- A box will pop up. In that box type:
a:setup
- Click OK. The Installer Software will step you through the
initial setup including swapping disks.
- When the installler has completed you should re-start your
computer.
- When Windows starts up again you will have a new program group
called, "Internet". In this group will be a number of new icons. If one
of these icons is titled, "README" you should run that first as it may
contain important information relating to your installation as well as
last-minute configuration instructions.
Configure Trumpet Winsock.
- Double click the Dialer Icon in the Internet program group.
- Within the Trumpet Winsock Dialer Program, Select the Item "File" from
the menu bar, then select "setup".
- SLIP Port should be equal to your modem COM port number.
- The Name Server should be 199.199.195.5
- Default Gateway can be set to 1.1.1.1
- Click the OK Button to save. You will then need to restart the dialer
program.
- Next, Click Dialer and select setup.cmd from the list. You will be
prompted to enter the telephone number to dial.
- Enter 651 556-6556 as the phone number and press enter.
- Next enter your username, this must be entered in lower case letters.
Then press enter.
- Enter your password, It must be entered exactly as it
was given to you. Remember to use the shift key when necessary.
Your system is now configured to access Sound Internet. In order for
this to be useful you will need to configure the individual
