Configuring Windows 2000 Professional for Internet Access


This is a step by step process of how to configure your Windows 2000 Professional Dial-up Connection settings to use your Sound Internet dial-up account. Make sure that your phone line is open and that your phone cord is directly connected to a working phone jack before starting.


First click on your start bar, select Settings, select Networking and Dial-Up Connections click on Make New Connection

Click Next

Select "Dial-up to private network", then click Next

Select the modem that is installed in your computer, click Next

Type in the area code and phone number then click Next.

Metro area users in the 651, 763, 952, and 612 area codes use: 651 556 6556, if you are in Taylors Falls, Almelund, or Osceola use: 651 257 2485, if dialing from the Non-metro Lindstrom/ Chisago City use: 651 257 2485, St. Croix Falls residents use: 651 465 6925, and Hudson residents use 651 436 4100.

Select "For all users", and then click Next

Type in Sound Internet and check the box "Add a shortcut to my desktop"

Type in your username and password, then check the "save password" box. Your username is the first part of your e-mail address. In the address jdoe@scc.net the username would be jdoe. If you cannot remember your username or password, you must call Sound Internet to get your username and assign a new password.
