Creating Your First Web Page Under Windows NT

Currently the fastest growing and most popular part of the Internet experience is the World Wide Web. Here are instructions for you on how to put your own WWW page on our server for the world to see. To do this you must first create a page on your own system. For instructions on how to do this, check your local library or Netscape's Home Page. Please note that all commands listed below are CASE SENSITIVE! This means that you must type commands with the same capitalization as it has displayed. 'WWW' is not the same thing as 'www'.

Creating Your WWW Directory

For NT 4.0, Click 'Start' then 'Run'
For NT 3.5x, from the Program Manager Click 'File' then 'Run'
Type in: telnet scc.net
Login as your username
Type in your password
To create your WWW directory, at the scc:~$ prompt, type: mkdir WWW
When finished type exit

scc:~$ mkdir WWW scc:~$ exit

mkdir WWW

Example:

scc:~$ mkdir WWW mkdir: cannot make directory `WWW': File exists scc:~$ exit

Putting Your Page On The Server

For NT 4.0, Click 'Start' then 'Run'
For NT 3.5x, from the Program Manager Click 'File' then 'Run'
In the window type command and press [ENTER]
Change into the directory where you've stored your web page
Type ftp scc.net
Enter your username
Enter your password
Type cd WWW
Type put
At the ftp> prompt type put
At the (local-file) prompt type the name of your web page file.
At the (remote-file) prompt type index.html
When the ftp> prompt returns type bye

C:\>ftp scc.net Connected to scc.net. 220 scc FTP server (Version wu-2.4.2-academ[BETA-10](1) Mon Nov 25 18:37:59 CST 1996) ready. User (scc.net:(none)): username 331 Password required for username. Password: 230 User username logged in. ftp> cd WWW 250 CWD command successful. ftp> put (local-file) web-page.html (remote-file) index.html 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for index.html. 226 Transfer complete. 105 bytes sent in 0.00 seconds (105000.00 Kbytes/sec) ftp> bye 221 Goodbye.

Making Your Web Page Accessible

For NT 4.0, Click 'Start' then 'Run'
For NT 3.5x, from the Program Manager Click 'File' then 'Run'
Type in: telnet scc.net
Login as your username
Type in your password
At the scc:~$ prompt, type: webset
When finished type exit

scc:~$ webset Setting Permissions. Done. scc:~$ exit
