Manually Configuring Mac OS X for Remote Access at Sound Internet.
| The following pages will step you through manually setting up Mac OS X for Internet access to SCC with no software needed. This is all that is needed to establish an internet connection with your modem |
Step One:
- To begin, click and hold the "
Menu", then "System Preferences." Or click on the System Preferences Icon in the dock.
 
Step Two:
- Then click on the "Network" icon.
Step Three:
- Next to "Show:" select your modem, usually "Internal Modem".
- Then Click on the "PPP" tab.

- Type the phone
number for this connection. Metro residents in the 763/952/651 area code use
"651-556-6556". Taylors Falls, Almelund, Shafer, Center City, Osceola, WI and Non-metro
Lindstrom or Chisago City residents use "257-6333" (no area code necessary). St. Croix
Falls, WI residents use "465-1001" (no area code necessary). Hudson, WI residents use
"436-4100".
Step Four:
- Next, click on the "TCP/IP" tab.
- Select Configure: Using PPP
- Domain Name Server: 199.199.195.5
- Search Domain: scc.net
Step Five:
- Next, click on the "Modem" tab.
- The settings should be set at the defaults, and you can check "Show modem status in menu bar".

Step Six:
- Next, click on the "Internet" control panel.

Step Seven:
- Next, click on the "Email" tab.
- First choose which email program or "Default Email Reader:" you would like to use.
- Enter your e-mail address in the first box, which is your username followed by @scc.net Example: username@scc.net
- Then enter the Incoming Mail Server: pop3.scc.net
- "Account type:" should be set to "POP"
- Your username should be entered all lowercase next to "User Account ID:".
- If you do not want to have to enter your password every time you check your mail you can enter your password in the "Password:" box.
- The "Outgoing Mail Server:" should be set to "smtp.scc.net".

Step Eight:
- Next, click on the "Web" tab.
- You can change the default web browser if you want.
- Enter your preferred home page and search page.
- You can change where you want files to automatically download by clicking "Select".

Step Nine:
- Next, click on the "News" tab.
- Set the news server to "news.scc.net".
- Connect as "Guest".

Step Ten:
- Double click on your hard drive and then double click on the "Applications" folder.

Step Eleven:
- Double click on the "Internet Connect" icon.

Step Twelve:
- Enter your password if you didn't enter it before. Then click the "Connect" button.
