What are the requirements for DSL?
DSL pushes existing copper phone lines to the limit. Because of this, the
qualifications are very stringent. Lines must meet all of the
following conditions:
- A loop no longer than 18,000 feet of 26 gauge copper.
- The loop must be directly fed by copper from the central office.
- The loop must not have any load coils on it.
- All bridge taps must be counted in total loop length.
- Maximum length of any bridge tap not to exceed 2,000 feet.
- Total bridge tap length on Revised Resistance Design Loop not to
exceed 6,000 feet.
- Total bridge tap length on Carrier Serving Area Design Loop not to
exceed 2,500 feet.
Generally speaking as long as you are within 18,000 feet of the Qwest Wire
Center or "C.O.", your line will be qualified for install. Other issues such as load coils and
bridge taps are issues that Qwest should resolve for you. These issues, however, may
delay your installation.
